Analyzing the Priceless MasterCard Advertisements :: Advertising Business Marketing GCSE Coursework
Analyzing the Priceless MasterCard Advertisements They tell how much it will cost you to buy one thing and then another, overwhelming you with the cost of life. They then reveal to you the priceless moment that comes from all of this cost. Can you guess which advertisements I am talking about? Thatââ¬â¢s right, MasterCard commercials; The commercials titled: ââ¬Å"Spending Quality Time with Your Familyâ⬠, ââ¬Å"Leaving Your Cash At Homeâ⬠, ââ¬Å"One Stadium Down, 29 To Goâ⬠from MasterCardââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"pricelessâ⬠ad campaign, just reel you in with that priceless moment. Well you would never guess just how many tactics they use in one commercial just to suck you in. They use many little clever details in order to appeal to people and convince them that they want to use their company and not someone elseââ¬â¢s. These MasterCard advertisements are targeted towards an American audience whether the audience be families or the youth of America. American values and interests, along with a va riety of visuals, text, and subject matters are incorporated in order to do this. The ads also appeal to these audiences through emotion and logic. By using all of these different tools, MasterCard is able to create a commercial to convince a mass of people to use their company without thinking any further than the commercial that just flashed before their eyes. The ads are centered on todayââ¬â¢s American society. These specific MasterCard ads target Americans through values and interests that make up their culture. One example being the use of The Simpsons show for one of these ads. Most Americans are very familiar with the Simpson family and therefore can relate to the advertisement. Also, the idea of having extra time to spend with your family is incorporated into the advertisement. This is very effective in capturing the audience because family is widely valued within American society. Another effective reference that is used is towards baseball. Baseball is huge in the United States and everyone either watches it or knows someone who does. By using these references MasterCard is able to create commercials that the creatorsââ¬â¢ audience can relate to. The authors of these commercials are a group of people hired by MasterCard to think the catchiest and most creative commercial. Their purpose is to create advertisements that are targeted towards and specific audience and then to capture that audience.

Harper Lees To Kill A Mockingbird Essay example -- Harper Lee Kill Mo
Harper Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird In the novel by Harper Lee named, To Kill a Mockingbird, there is one main tragic event that occurs. The feelings and expressions dealt with in the novel are seen through the eyes of the main character, named Scout. In the novel Tom Robinson is a black male accused of rape in Maycomb County. During the same time period as the novel there were many historical events that were almost identical in setting and conclusion. There were many things that happened leading up to the court case that foreshadowed Tom Robinsonââ¬â¢s inability to be found innocent of the charges. The Scottsboro case and the case in the novel are similar in many ways, especially in that they ruined the lives of blacks over false accusations. An event that was very much similar in nature to the novel was the Scottsboro trials. The Scottsboro trials involved nine young black males who were charged with the rape of two white females on a train. The black boys on the train got into a fight with some white males, which was the beginning of their worst nightmare. The two women on the train that made the accusations saw an opportunity to stage a rape claim. The two women in the Scottsboro case were from poor families living in African-American communities. In the 1920's and 1930s it was not common for white families to live in black communities. Even though there were a few that lived in the black communities, they were not thought highly of. The two women's names were Victoria Price and Ruby Bates. During the court case, ââ¬Å"Another witness claimed that he had let Price use a room for prostitution and that she turned down a white man once because it was ââ¬ËNegro nightââ¬â¢" (Greatest). Ruby Batesââ¬â¢ situation was not much bet... ...onvicted of a crime that he didnââ¬â¢t commit, which eventually led to his death. The town of Maycomb committed a sin, by killing a mockingbird. A1 Steak Sauce Essay
1) How would you characterize the A1 Steak Sauce business? In 1830, Henderson William Brand, chef to Englandââ¬â¢ King George developed a sauce that so delight the king he proclaimed it to be ââ¬Å"A1â⬠. The product was first sold in North America in the early 1900s. Kraft Foods acquired A1 in 2000 as part of its acquisition of Nabisco. Kraft Foods was the largest food company in the United States and second largest in the world. Kraft Foods most direct competitors were General Mills, Unilever, Pepsico and Nestle. In 2002, A1 had a 54% dollar share of the Steak Sauce Market Shares with an 83 percent gross profit margin. Distribution of A1 stretched across the United States with the product available in every grocery store. Kraft Foods spent 15 percent of its operating revenue on A1 advertising. Revenue on A1 Steak Sauce was about $150 million and operating profit was approximately $60 million. A1ââ¬â¢s 2003 plan anticipated flat revenue and slight profit growth. 2) Why is Lawryââ¬â¢s launching a steak sauce product? Explain. In 2002, Lawryââ¬â¢s was owned by Unilever one of Kraft Foods leading competing food companies with brand sales in excess of $100 million and a strong position in seasoning and marinades. In early 2003, Unilever announced plans to launch a Lawryââ¬â¢s Steak Sauce with a ship date of April 1st and a price per bottle $1.00 less than A1. Unileverââ¬â¢s decision to launch a steak sauce product was based on disappointing financial results in recent years.à Unilever launched a new strategic plan program called ââ¬Å"Path to Growthâ⬠. A key element of this program was rationalizing its brand portfolio focusing on the largest global brands. The company challenged all of its brands including Lawry to reach annual sales of at least one billion dollars. 3) Should A1 Steak Sauce defend itself against the Lawryââ¬â¢s launch? If not, why not? If yes, why and how? Discuss. Jennifer Miller, Smithââ¬â¢s research manager statement of ââ¬Å"you know A1 has the strongest brand equity in the category, itââ¬â¢s virtually untouchable.â⬠I donââ¬â¢t agree and feel her comment is unrealistic, nothing is untouchable. I would recommend that A1 defend against Lawryââ¬â¢s Steak Sauce launch scheduled for April 1st, otherwise A1 could find they are losing market shares and trying to play catch up. In my opinion A1 has a choice to compete head-to-head with Lawryââ¬â¢s 2 for $5.00 deal launching on April 1st or sit back and hope that consumer donââ¬â¢t switch to the Lawryââ¬â¢s Steak Sauce. Either way A1 will have to spend money to remain dominant and competitive in the steak sauce market. 4) What are the competitive and financial implications of defending or not depending against the Lawryââ¬â¢s launch?à Lawry is scheduled to launch their new steak sauce of April 1st at $1.00 less than the A1 sauce and Publix is ready to give Lawry the Memorial Day week promotion which is normally 10 percent of A1 Annual Sales. If Lawry, does gain 10 percent of the steak sauceà market and customers like the taste, willing to pay the reduced price regardless of taste or canââ¬â¢t really tell the difference in taste from A1, customers might continue to buy the Lawryââ¬â¢s Steak Sauce for the $1.00 cheaper bottle. Lawryââ¬â¢s Steak Sauce launch could allow them to gain and increase in Lawryââ¬â¢s share in the steak sauce market. 5) What did you learn from your analysis of this case? Explain. A1 Steak Sauce was invented in 1830 and first sold in North America in the early 1900s. In 2003, over 100 years later, A1 Steak Sauce finally had potential competition with the launch of Lawryââ¬â¢s Steak Sauce. I feel that Kraft Foods should have planned for such a contingency that to me was inevitable. If they had planned, the company could have properly budgeted, maybe with a contingency type fund within the marketing department. For example, today where are reel-to-reel tapes, 8 track tapes and cassette tapes, all have become outdated with improvements in technology. To further illustrate in the food industry, try to find ââ¬Å"Pitter Patterâ⬠peanut butter cookies made by Keebler which were out marketed by Nabiscoââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Nutter Butterâ⬠peanut butter cookies. Nothing is untouchable or lasts forever!

Causes and Prevention of Poor Health Essay
In many countries, especially the United States, behaviors leading to poor health start early in life. The three ââ¬Å"leading causes of preventable death in the United States are smoking, obesity, and alcohol abuseâ⬠(Science Daily, 2006). Along with these problems, ââ¬Å"a lack of exercise, drug abuse, and sexually transmitted diseases were prominent in young adultsâ⬠(Science Daily, 2006). Some reasons for these problems are children and young adults spending more time inside playing video games and watching television instead of going outside to play or to participate in a sport. Often young adults are left to take care of themselves after school and during the summer vacation, and their diets tend to suffer. Smoking, alcohol use, and drug use are all glorified in movies and on television, and some young people feel that they need to copy those actions to make themselves ââ¬Å"coolâ⬠in the eyes of others. Insufficient sexual education at home and at school contributes to disease and unwanted pregnancy. To change these behaviors, more must be done to teach children to take care of their bodies. Even a small child can be taught to enjoy good foods, at the very least in school lunches, and can be taught that playing is more fun than watching television. Because some children live in areas where outside play is limited, schools and non profit organizations should step in and offer plenty of physical education and after school activities. After school activities and school vacation programs can also help with the drug, alcohol, and smoking problems. Having good role models demonstrate clean lifestyles and teach the dangers of harmful activities may cause some children to never start them. Finally, sex education must be provided in some form before children feel the urges to become sexually active. Programs that teach young people how difficult it is to care for a child and how devastating a sexually transmitted disease can be, and in some cases how deadly they can be, need to start early and be carried through all the years of schooling. Children must be made aware of how special their bodies are, and how they can carefully tend to them to make them strong, healthy, and last for a long time. The earlier they can be taught this, the less poor health there will be in the United States.

Sony corp Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Sony corp - Essay Example Though not all have been successful, Sony has endured in the world of high technology. The company had its beginnings by bringing a portable AM radio within the reach of all consumers and has evolved to encompass the areas of information technology, digital home electronics, media content, and financial services. Because of Sony's diverse product line, the company has found it beneficial to have a marketing plan that sells its business products through channels as well as direct sales to the consumer. Sony primarily sells its information technology to businesses through its Solution Provider Center that was introduced in 2006. Jay Dishong, vice president of business-to-business sales states that the Center provides improved, "commitment, communication and service levels to our distributors, solution providers and B2B end users" (Dishong). Mike Abary, vice president of Vaio notebook marketing states that , "You can no longer buy direct, if you are a business. The move to an all-channel model, he said, was driven largely by the better economics of delivering to businesses via solution providers" (Moltzen). In contrast to Sony's Provider Center for B2B products, their consumer products are marketed through direct sales via a web portal. The web site, Sonystyle.com also lists a toll free number that consumers can call to place an order. In addition, consumer products are made available through major retail outlets (Sony Style). . Sony products are marketed under categories that include electronics, music, games, movies, components, and financial services. They sell home entertainment electronics, the Play Station 2 video game, Blu-ray DVD discs, and digital cameras and camcorders. As a broad based home entertainment provider, they also own Sony Studios, which produces and distributes original movies and television content (Sony Pictures). These products are aimed at the consumer market. Sony also markets a line of audio-visual and information technology that targets businesses. These products include VAIO products, public displays, projectors, and optical storage products (Abary). The Sony Semiconductor Group manufactures electronic components to be used by OEM manufacturers. Sony financial services include banking, insurance, and credit cards. The core of Sony's business is the home electronics and information technology, which accounts for 90 percent of their revenue ("Business at a Glance"). Sony's objective has been, and remains, to be the leader in networked home electronics. By offering products that interact with each other they are able to network a household through a common entertainment network. Sony's marketing strategy has been to create a group of products that work together to deliver media content in the home. That strategy was based on the popularity of broadband and by the forming of alliances. The Play Station 2, and its DVD format Blu-ray, have been a key component of that strategy. "The development of the Play Station itself was aided by alliances forged between hardware designers and game-software developers; so were other innovations like the compact disc, a result of an alliance with Phillips" (Singh, Pangarkar, and Heracleous 99). Learning from the bitter rivalry between the videotape formats of Betamax and VHS, Sony has utilized alliances to popularize the Blu-ray high definition DVD format. In conclusion, Sony is primarily an

Rebuilding Community Using positive Psychology Essay
Rebuilding Community Using positive Psychology - Essay Example One is left wondering how such a humanitarian and natural catastrophe could conspire to create a living hell, with flooding that stretched beyond 90,000 square miles and creating a human displacement of 400,000 people. Hundreds of thousands of residents lost jobs. In a nutshell the happening of the disaster teared apart the social fabric as ruthless as the physical infrastructure. In reality this is a spiritual dent that is firmly embedded and forever shall ring on the minds of the masses and transcending beyond various manmade stratums in life. Yet this agonizing aftereffect leaves an awkward experience to the urban planners, Policymakers. According to Maslow's hierarchy of human needs, the analogy here is that the current state of living in Katrina at the bottom of Maslow's law of hierarchy of needs. Thus the superdome city has become an abyss of suffering, desperation and despair. The worst tragedy is the mayhem created by hoodlums who crept out from their dark hiding places to their new freedom of looting and raping the helpless vulnerable Katrina Survivors and ignorantly exposing the dark belly of New Orleans. William C Compton (2001) It is now evident that Environmental catastrophes unfold in different shapes and sizes that cannot be contained by human ingenuity; this can be quantified with the concurrent striking of tsunami in Katrina, Indonesia, Kobe Japan among many places. Therefore rebuilding Katrina to its former, and better stature goes beyond brick and mortar. Posttraumatic syndromes need a specialized approach in combating the menace. Kolk's classic article, "The Body Keeps the Score," Harvard Review of Psychiatry, Jan-Feb 1994, 253-65). Reports that Trauma alters limbic system structures (involved in various emotions such as aggression, fear, pleasure, and also in the formation of memory) in ways that are not easily corrected through talk or self-reflection. This calls for probing of highly sophisticated positive psychiatry modalities that have the ability to rapidly counter maladaptive hyperarousal in the limbic system. This abolishes the preconceived illusion that is rides on the notions that outlive s the materialistic view of food; medical treatment and shelter as the only requirements needed by refugees of Hurricane Katrina. Energy Psychology Therapy With limited psychiatry centers, it is therefore a collective responsibility for clinical psychiatrist's from myriad backgrounds and the community at large to integrate Energy psychology, a discipline that utilizes cognitive interventions, combined with methods derived from acupuncture, acupressure, and related systems. - In treating emotional and behavioral problems. Historical records indicate that the approach has had a remarkable achievement as post trauma psychological intervention in the wake of natural and human disasters in the Congo, Kenya, Kosovo, Kuwait, Mexico, Moldavia, Nairobi, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, and Thailand and probably it will bring optimistic changes upon the Katrina's. Energy psychology is an approach to psychotherapy and emotional self-management that uses the stimulation of "energy points" on the skin for the purpose of changing specific emotional response patterns (Gallo.F.P 2004). Stress Debriefing and Cognitive Behavior This approach was founded and

Fall of Roman Empire Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Fall of Roman Empire - Essay Example They did not have a concept of saving resources and using them in time of need. The first emperor who tried to fix this problem was Diocletian 284-385 A.D. He tried to freeze everything as it was most suitable to preserve the economic situation of the empire. For example slaves could not be free anymore, intermarrying between social classes was severely restricted and social mobility became more restricted (Mathisen, 2006). In 301 Diocletian imposed a ceiling on prices to control the economic crisis but it was impossible to control this big empire. Also, in the regions where he tried to impose price ceilings, riots and black markets broke out. Diocletian understood that commanding economy do not work in this kind of government. He understood that commanding economy can provide food and things to keep the place stable but it needed more money and due to no productivity, the halt of territorial expansions, and weak frontiers there was no flow of money and the economy was becoming weaker day by day. In early Rome, slaves were a very important part of the labor force, but as the Empire began to collapse slave labor became much harder to control (Temin, 2004). Diocletian tried to control the slave labor shortage by forbidding workers to leave their jobs, restricting social mobility, and increasing taxes but all of this did not restore economic stability. The empire faced inflation; the currency was no more in gold and silver coins but copper. Some of these coins still exist today. More than 2,000 were found in a concrete lined box in Scotland in 2002 (Kaplan, 2003). Therefore the people refused to be paid in money and they started to trade objects of wealth. This was the best solution for the people, but this further perpetuated the economic problems by causing structural problems in the empire. The empire was built upon the labor of slaves but they could not benefit from their work (New Internationalist, 2001). Peter
